AE 2019 Keeps Crashing

Hi all,

Have a very very annoying problem which i cant seem to fix,

The program will just randomly crash all the time which as you can imagine is very frustrating. I don't do anything in particular to cause the crash, a lot of the time it happens when i just let it sit for a couple of minutes making it even harder to identify the problem

I'm using the latest version of After effects, i tried to go to an older version only to find that none of my dynamic links work

System specs are

Xeon 1240 V5

Quadro P2000

32gb of Ram

Windows 10 (all updated)

As for crash logs - I tried to look in the logs folder only to find nothing there so no idea

Any help would be very greatly appreciated

Have you done some troubleshooting, like attempting to open other projects to see if it is only affected by one?

Well im not sure if this is actually what fixed it but I used ccleaner on my registry and it seems to be ok now i looked at the registry problems it found and there were some after effects paths that needed to be fixed apparently, might be worth anyone else trying if they have this problem

Unfortunately, there is a bug in AE 16.0.1 which causes a crash when changing workspaces with extensions that are docked. Could this be what's happening? I know you said it happens even if you let the machine sit, but without more information all we can do is spitball. Also, for the sake of other people reading this post in the future, and also because sometimes people miss updates, please specify which version of AE you're on, rather than saying "the latest." Two weeks ago that was AE 16.0, today it's 16.0.1.

Have you updated your GPU drivers? Driver conflicts are often the cause of crashes in AE, so that the first thing I usually check.

I updated the graphics drivers and the issue was on 16.01, 16.0 and even when I tried CC 2018, However a new GPU driver was released today so i've updated and I will see how that goes i will also have a look into the docking situation, thank you !

So i want to give an update on the problem, Updating drivers did not work.

Just some things i noticed though;

it hangs for a while but then as soon as the crash window pops up it starts working again (behind the crash window) but obviously as soon as you click submit it closes the whole program

I had a look in task manager while it was hanging and it showed after effects as being suspended ?

So back to square one of not having a clue as to what is going on

I'm going to ask my first question again.  Have you tried opening other projects to see if it's just this one?  I've experienced this same symptom before and it is often associated with a corrupted project.

Hi Eric sorry I forgot to say that it has happened with other projects to, it normally always happens with big projects though
