AE 24.1 Not enough RAM error but I have 48gb installed.

Hey,

I'm getting an error in AE Version 24.1 that is insisting I don't have enough RAM and therefore it's rendering like 5 frames of playback and looping it. I have 48gb's of DDR5 Ram.

Computer Specs for reference:

Asus Zenbook 14 Pro

I9 Intel Processor

GTX 4060

16GB onboard DDR5 RAM

32 GB SODIMM DDR5 RAM

Things I've tried:

Cleaning + Deleting Media Cache

Purging Memory (which works momentarily)

Toggling off 'Enable Multiframe Rendering'

Restarting and then importing my AE project into a new project with updated settings.

None of this has worked and AE seems to just eat up my RAM no matter how much is installed.

Let me know if anyone has fixed this or dealt with this!! Tysm !!

Sorry for the issue, 56_Bones.

Does it happen with all the projects or a particular one? Have you tried using After Effects in Safe Mode with the third-party plug-ins disabled? Also, try disabling the Cache Frames When Ideal in Composition > Preview.

Let us know if that brings any change.

Note: Moving this thread from Bugs to Discussions for troubleshooting.

Thanks,
Nishu

Hey,

Thanks for the response. And for moving to the correct channel. It happens on all my projects across multiple computers. Also tried running it on a Macbook Pro that I have, which has worse specs, 16gb ram etc but just wanted to test.

I will try running in Safe Mode, but there are plug-ins that I need for work/deadlines. So that might not be a long term solution for me. Will also try disabling the cache frames.

Let me know if there are any other potential solves? Or something in the preferences I'm missing?

Anyone else having this issue? Or know of a solve?

I tried working in Safe mode as well. Didn't solve anything unforunately. Just had a crash happen while using Mocha and lost 2+ hours of rotoing 😕

If Mocha has a crash, do you try to update the graphic card driver?

hey there!

thanks for the reply.

Yeah graphics card is up to date. I talked to a few other friends who work in AE and all of them are saying they are having similar issues with AE 24. Maybe there's a patch coming soon? Seems like the RAM usage is just wild.

Hi, I am having the same problem with 128gb installed.

Win Log status:

Windows successfully diagnosed a low virtual memory condition. The following programs consumed the most virtual memory: AfterFX.exe (10584) consumed 149243756544 bytes, dwm.exe (1944) consumed 1543450624 bytes, and explorer.exe (8864) consumed 1006026752 bytes.

Not sure what to do.

Like you, tried everything and nothing seems to solve the problem.

Jumping back in here, did you find a sollution?

I got frustrated and put this project down, picked it back up today and it's breaking the computer again lol. I have been working in other more intensive projects in the meantime using C4D and Blender with no performance issues.

Let me know and hope you solved!

Best,

Dylan

Hi Dylan,

I have installed older version (24.0.1.), tried it, but it was the same, but then I have updated to the newest version and it works now.
Don't know what happened and how it works now, but it is ok.
Except that, I have increased vitual memory 2x my RAM memory.
Maybe you can try the same.

We will see how it will be in the future versions.

Good luck.
Benjamin
