I need to send a client some collected projects, but the File > Dependencies > Collect Files command is not collecting some of the files (after the project has been reduced, so all the files in the project are required), including the project file!
I just end up with a collected folder containing a "Footage" folder that includes some of the files and not others. This is a nightmare!! There are hundreds of files that will take days I do not have to manually track each file down.
Any suggestions?

Hey everyone -
Running CC 2014 on Mac 10.9.5
I kept getting this error when trying to collect:
After Effects warning: The file 'filename' could not be found.
So I know this is going to sound crazy, but the problem was the mouse and Wacom tablet. Anytime I gave it input when it was starting to collect it would error out like that. Then i tried putting down the wacom pen and clicking enter on the save dialog and boom - worked perfectly. Really strange bug - hopefully Adobe addresses it soon. Props to

Same problem!!! AE CC 2014.
It seems that it collects everything, but all the folders are empty and also the projectfile isn't there.

Thats bonker, would never have found that, well done if that is the cause! Submit a bug report.

I can confirm this is a repeatable bug. Any mouse movement while using the wacom tablet results in a stoppage of the file collection and a project file with missing footage.

This actually worked for me. How stupid is that???? I'm just glad there was a solution.
I wasn't using a tablet (just mouse) but I was trying to export, touched the mouse accidentally and it stopped. I tried again without touching the mouse. It worked.
How silly!!!

I was having huge problems with this same issue on CC 2015. The silly "Don't touch your mouse while collecting" thing totally worked for me. I nearly wanted to cry tears of joy. The alternative of trying to find all of those files manually was a bit overwhelming.

I can confirm that this solves the issue as well. As long as I don't touch the wacom or mouse (using only keyboard navigation) collecting projects now works fine. Thanks for the hint!

I stumbled upon the same problem. Ebelharw's solution worked for me as well.
Thanks alot for the heads up!

I honestly did not think it would work, but it does. Just don't touch your mouse while collecting.
Thanks a lot for the tip !

This is my favourite bug ever. It makes no sense. There was I networking my workstation to a laptop, "because it seemed to work on there". Thanks for posting.

I don't know how you found that out - but nicely done man!
It worked for me!
Thanks!

I still can't believe this. I tried and it works. My hope to be able to collect files blurred many years ago! Independently from the OS, the AE version, plugins and whatever else I've never been able to collect files it until today. First time ever!
Thank you so much!!!

What version of AE are you running? It works better for me in 13.7.2.

Genious! This worked. Whenever I moved my wacom pen doing other stuff would get the error (I never thought this could be the reason)
Thanks!!

Indeed, moving the cursor (from any mouse) will first give an error on the file that is being collected at that moment. Next, Ae will collect only the folders without the content and not the AE file itself. Staying away from the mouse solves the issue.
This is with the latest CC 2104 version

Moving the mouse or the Wacom pen is the problem...? That's just f-ing nuts.

I started having this problem last week and thought 'Oh well, I'll collect my projects next week'. Still having the problem I stumbled on this post. It actually works. Kudos to ebelhar. Not moving my mouse ... I would have died of old age before I found that one!

I've had this problem ever since upgrading to cc 14 and I'm on the latest version. Any word from Adobe if/when this will be addressed? I've upgraded to the latest Wacom drivers, still the same problem.

This is super bizarre...I had to convert a SUPER old AE 6.0 projectile, so I installed After Effects CS5.5 on my system to do the conversion (AE CC is unable to convert AE 6.0 project files).
When I tried to do a "Collect Files" of the project in AE CS5.5, I get the same "could not be found' error message when I move the mouse during the collection process that you get in AE CC 2014!
Obviously, this bug goes deeper than AE CC.2014 itself.
(This is on Mac OS X 10.9.5)
