After Affects Wont Render - Please Help

New Here ,

Hi, I hope everyone is well. I use a Macbook,Version 11.7.4, and have After Effects, version 23.4. Whenever I try to render my project, the exported file is glitchy and nonexistent. The rendering itself works yet the product is nothing like what I want to export. How do I fix this?

There is a jpeg attached, but no video. Post back once you have a video uploaded so we can see what's going on.

Thanks, that's helpful to see.

Can you try switching the Render Queue output to the "High Quality" preset and see if the video is output correctly. Definitely some sort of corruption in the H.264 encoder so it'd be good to know if ProRes outputs correctly.

In terms of fixing this, can you share more details on your hardware? Does the 11.7.4, mean that is the MacOS version you are running on? How old is the Macbook you are using? Is it an Intel machine?

If you go into the Output Module -> Format Options -> Does this still reproduce with Performance Switched from Hardware Encoding to Software Encoding when using H.264?

Yes, that is the version I am running on.

The mac itself is a MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014). Because it's from 2014, I assume it's an intel,

Anyways, my original settings match the ones in the screenshot you've shown, so nothing has changed.

Try changing that Hardware Encoding to Software Encoding and see if that helps. I have a feeling a 2014 machine may not have full support for Hardware Encoding.

Did you try the High Quality preset to export in ProRes format?

Could you go through how to do that?
I might have done it incorrectly.

Other basic troubleshooting steps:

  1. Restarting after effects or machine
  2. Deleting everything in the render queue helps (Open render queue, type command + a to select and then press "delete")
  3.  Make a new AE file, import the whole AE project, render from this new AE file (saves corupted AE files sometimes)
