Almost every second time when I am trying to select an output folder for my render, After Effects suddenly freezes and then crashes. I have absolutely no idea what may be causing this bug, but now I have to remember to save my project every single time I use the built-in file browser in case it freezes again, which happens almost on a regular basis. This is seriously frustrating.

Can you please share your system info? Like OS and version, CPU, RAM, GPU vRAM, Ae version? Thanks. Also a screen grab of your issue will be helpful.

Hello,
It took me a long while but I wanted to try all available options. Running AE in admin mode seems to prevent freezing while in browsing mode which suggests this indeed might be a permissions issue. However, using this mode prevents me from using one of the essential functions in my daily workflow, which is drag&drop file importing, as it does not work while using AE as an admin on Windows 10.
I have tried the second solution, which is modifying permissions in the file explorer, but apparently all the settings were fine and there was no need to change anything.
Right now the issue started to also affect Photoshop as it refuses to run in non-admin mode, simply freezing upon startup. Again, while using admin mode, I am unable to drag&drop files, which is rather frustrating.
Is there any other possible solution that I can try, or should I rather consider reinstalling Windows and starting things fresh?
Best regards,
Maciej

Hello, I'm having the exact same problem. I've completely erased everything on my computer and reinstalled the OS, two times, still I'm having the same problem. Apple MacBook Pro - M1 Max - Empty memory - Sonoma 14.4.1. I've been having this issue for months and it's starting to feel so frustrating not being able to use what I pay for...
