I just got my new 16in macbook pro, fully loaded and as soon as I booted up After Effects, I am getting lines and weird repeating pixels over all of my comps.
I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and had the same issue. I also tried changing the project from Metal to Software only.
Has anyone else experienced this or heard of a solve?

Is this issue come all the time or only over some footage? mostly look like GPU error and i don't know if AE support the new AMD GPU (5300 or 5500) on the MBP 16.
try use a old version of AE and see if it can help you

Hi OussK, the issue comes all the time, all over the composition, with AE2020. With the 2019 version comes only on some footages and some effects, but it's still present.

Hi, i have the same exact issue with After Effects 2020 (17.0) and the new 16-inch MacBook Pro with AMD Radeon 5300.
In the AMD forums i see that another guy with the same setup (16"MBP w/AMD Radeon 5500) have the same issue so i think it's a software/hardware incompatibility.
I tried to use my old After Effects 2019 and it works, but not fine: with some efffect i have the same issue but restricted to the area of the effect in the composition.
Unfortunately, actually my new MBP is unusable with this software 😞

I've got the same bug on my new MacBook Pro. Is there anything known?

It look like some bug with the new AMD driver, so i think a new update will be release soon to fix this issue. it's a good idea to report this to apple also so may they can fix the issue in the next update.

Hi! I have the same problem with MacBook Pro 16" (AMD 5500 8gb)
How we can fix it!?

Hi
Same model, same problem
You can fix it - until Apple or Adobe really fix the problem - by unchecking "hardware accelerate composition, panels, ..." in the preferences

Hey! Thanks now works! But unchecking "hardware accelerate..." After Effects is much slower?

it depends on the comps, the assets, the effects, etc
For small/average projects, i don't think that you will see a difference
And it's better to finish a work with a fast machine that is not that fast, than not being able to work
And it's always better to check this option, so i hope there will be a fix soon

The issue is still present after the update.
Edit: I wanted to add that this bug is also present in Premiere as well. So currently the only work around is to be on software only engines -- even still the crop tool will show these types of errors.

Thanks for updating us with the results. I'll share the update with the After Effects engineering team. A bit of information would be useful:
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks,

Preview remains the same when the ruler is toggled.
Behavior is exactly the same as before the update.

I should also now add that on the other project that I was working on, this software update broke all my linked comps to where it now just plays random frames from different video clips colored blue and throws up portions of different masks in the comps.

I uninstalled AE and downgraded to 17.0. For some reason this resolves the issue and allows me to use the Metal Engine.
