After Effects keeps crashing after a few minutes of use

I just got after effects today, and I have been following the tutorials. The issue is, the app keeps crashing every few minutes and it's becoming really irritating, especially as I lose all the progress from what I was working on. My laptop is a HP Pavilion Laptop 15-cc6xx, i7 intel core processor. Is it too weak, or am I doing something wrong? Thank you in advance!

honestly, depends on what you're doing and which version you're in. AE can be pretty unstable sometimes. What version of the app are you using and what type of stuff are you doing with it?

As I said to Peru Bob, all of that plus I am just running through the tutorials on the website, I didn't think it would be too strenuous.

Did AE throw up one or more error message(s) just before/when it crashed? What are these messages? Were there other strange happenings with the UI before each crash? Which GPU are you using - this is quite important as a fair bit of issues with AE, lately, seem related to poor quality GPUs. And which tutorial, specifically, are you trying to redo? It should be obvious there are 'heavy', demanding tutorials as well as less taxing ones out there - it'll be good to know what you were actually working on/with and whether you have tried working or a tutorial/task that is less demanding on your system.

You should also post as much details as possible, of your system - OS, RAM, GPU, Harddisk(s), CPU.

How much RAM do you have?

How much free hard drive space?

I have 12 gigs of RAM and I have over 800 gigs of hard drive space available on drive C. Also I am using After Effects CC 2018, if that helps any.

Um, as I said, my RAM is 12 gigs, I just updated to the latest windows OS, I have my hard disk C which has over 800 gigs of storage left, and my CPU Processor is Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8550U CPU @ 1.80GHz, 1992 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s). I think my GPU is the Dirextx12.

I completed the first two tutorials sections, and I am about to start the text tutorials.

That processor speed is a bit too slow for After Effects.

As Peru Bob has mentioned, this seems to be a performance related issue. Regardless, the way AE handles the issue by freezing, followed by a crash; without any error message(s), is not an elegant way with which to deal with such an issue. I strongly suggest you send in a Bug Report (see the appropriate link at the top of the AE Forum's main page).

Oh, and there are no error messages or anything. It just starts to freeze then closes, doesn't let me click on anything.
