After Effects PC spec limits

Hi forum.

A while ago, there was a discussion regarding some PC parts a forum user had posted, but I cannot locate this post. Anyway my question

is regarding some PC specs I was reading are not utilised by AE to 100%. And that he was wasting his money spending on so much high end specs.

I think it was the RAM he chose it was exaggerated something like 4600mhz, and users were replying that so much RAM speed was not utilised by AE, or The CPU he choose was too many cores for AE to handle.

So if there are any PC gurus regarding specs and performance I'd like to get some good info regarding AE limits it has on some PC parts.

Thank you.

They've said After Effects by itself doesn't use many cores and that it's best to get a chip with the fastest clock speed rather than one with many cores. Though I think if you use something like RenderGarden (or RenderBoss if that also works) that will utilise more cores.

Some people have said you don't need that much RAM but if you work on 4K comps it can be worth having 128 GB RAM (I'd prefer more), though not all chips support that much I think. Some of the latest chips they recommend seem to get quiet hot (and if they overhead they may reduce their clock speed if they have turbo modes I think) compared  to some others.

IIRC Single core performance is more important for editing while multiple cores is more useful for rendering.

I dont know about ram speed but I know after effects pretty much runs more smoothly the more ram you have.
