Hi, I have a project in After Effects that is playing an audio file I need to delete. I don't see the file in the timeline or layers. But when I play the project or export it, the old audio still plays. I've tried searching around the forum and can't seem to find this problem (or a solution). The layer isn't hidden, it's not under something else, not sure what is happening.
Thanks ahead of time for any help!
I see Tim responded to you here so all the information is here: https://adobe-video.uservoice.com/forums/911311-after-effects%…
Congratulations, you have broken After Effects!

Thank you! Empty disk cache is greyed out - I did not have disk cache enabled.
Also, now realizing the actual problem is that I can only see about 44 layers on my timeline, despite having around 260. I can scrub and watch the full project, all layers seen on video, but I can only see up to layer 44 on my timeline; thus the missing audio clip.

check your shy master switch and turn it off

Here's the very bottom of layers available on my timeline. You can see that I'm over an earlier section of the project, whose layers don't show on the timeline.

Wait -- that very bottom layer is layer 43. That's a far cry from 260.

Yes, there should be about 260 layers. But most of them are missing from the timeline, thus the 43 layers. Even though when I scroll through the timeline, I can see the full project, which is comprised of about 260 layers. The red and blue animation shown in the screenshot are layers that aren't on the timeline, even though they are there in the preview, and I can play the full project.

Well, don't think this to be rude, but it appears some quality time here would be helpful:

I hear that - I'm not an expert by any means in After Effects, but I did try to figure this out before posting. And an older version of the project has everything, no problem. You can see from my video, the timeline just doesn't have everything it previews. Don't know why, can't seem to find out why.

I've had a similar issue in the past. You should send in a Bug Report - include the AEP with the assets if you can or as many of the assets as is possible, without you impinging on client-related matters.

Weird. can you share the project files? no need for the assets. I'd like to examine it.

some kind of U.I bug, I would try to select all Ctrl+A and paste in a new composition. some tests need to be made on how to work around this anomaly.

Will try, thanks! Also I just sent you a link for the file to poke around. I appreciate the help!

Got it Thanks. I see now. after doing the workaround I suggested earlier I see you got over 1k of layers in there and you probably reached After Effects threshold U.I wise.
if Ctrl + A, then opening a new composition with a long enough duration, then Ctrl + V doesn't work out for you, I am not sure what else is there. something about this project should have been optimized differently to not reach this place. if you are willing to share this file with the Ae Team, I am sure they will appreciate it.

Thanks again! Yes, it actually had way more files than I realized lol.
Tried what you suggested, wouldn't work, kept saying original source deleted. Tried first importing files and then copying timeline, then tried imported project first then copying timeline... no luck.
Now trying the good old uninstall/reinstall, but my install of After Effects keeps stopping at 81%. Ugh. I noticed it kept doing that when I was trying to update AE, so I'd just been leaving the update alone. Tried repairing Creative Cloud app... still stuck.
Seeing if a direct download of AE will work.

Glad it's working. Though I do feel like you may be back here in a bit asking why the 260 layer comp isn't performing very well.
