so i've been trying for three days now and i can't get audios to import into after effects. every time i try to import a certain audio it says "(audio name).mp3 could not be found" when i clearly have it in my files. something that is weird though is the name of the audio when i select it from the files is different than when it says (audio name).mp3 could not be found. could there be something wrong with that? i have after effects cc 2017 and i know it's not because i need to update it because there are some audios that i am able to import. i need to fix this problem as quick as i can because i need an edit done by march 8th. heres a screen record of what happens when i try to import it.

Try converting your MP3 to a video standard 48 Hkz 16 bit PCM Wav file. There are hundreds of varieties of MP3 files and many, if not all of them, are unsuitable for video production. The compression scheme can completely foul things up.

How are you converting your MP4 to a WAV file?
Is your version of AE up to date. There were some bugs with some of the earlier builds. I don't remember which version had the audio bug but it has been fixed.

you mean mp3? i converted the mp3 to wav through audacity as it gives me the option to export my audio as wav. is there another way that could be better? i will try updating my after effects too and see if that works. thank you!

I've used Audacity to successfully convert audio, but you may also try Adobe Audition. I have no clue why Audacity didn't work. It should have.

Also try to rename your audio file and change the directory (maybe put it on desktop)

I think that OussK is closer with his comment to what you are experiencing. Your issue seems to be more because of file restrictions, drive permissions ora naming/filepath conflict than with formats and codecs.
So please let us know what kind of import methot you are using: draging in files, double tap on projecy panel or just file>import - first one (draging in) will not work if you work on Windows and your AE is opened with admin privileges
Check if your drives have no restricted access in some way
Also try to put your audio file into shortest file path possible (f. eg. D:\mymp3.mp3) and check and change name of your mp3 to something shorter and without any special symbols (letters with apostrophes language specific letters etc.) and then try to import by going to File>import
Let us know if any of those helped.

i use a macbook and the only way i am able to even select the file to import is through file>import. i have tried the dragging in option but it doesn't allow me to do it like that. i will try to check the file name. i figure it has something to do with that because it gives a different name from what the file actually is called when it give me the error message.
