I'm having an issue with After Effects 2018 & 2019 where I can't paste text from Word documents. I tried quitting and restarting the app, still get the same problem. Did a full restart of my computer, still have the same issue. Ran app cleaners and cleared preferences on both. Still persists. Is there any way I can fix this problem? This is impeding my ability to complete my projects in a timely manner which requires me to copy and paste large amounts of text. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Also, I'm on a late 2013 iMac with High Sierra installed.

Verify that you are not pasting black text on a black background. Verify that it is not Word Art. Verify that when you paste it you have to activate a text box in Ae.

Don't use CMD C and CMD V (Mac) or CTRL C and CTRL V (Win) when you are copying from Word. Rather elect all text and then right click and copy. In AE start a new text layer, create a text box and paste there. Sometimes the keyboard shortcuts don't bring in the text. Ive seen this personally a few times. Trust this works.
Let me know.

byroncortezh I'm not pasting black text on a black background nor using Word Art. I've also tried pasting to a new text layer and I'm still getting the same result.
@Mo Moolla I also tried your method and it's still yielding the same result

Can you open up any other test editor like text edit or notes etc and try copying and pasting from these.
If it doesn't work you might need to look into uninstalling using the Adobe Cleaner Tool and reinstalling

You always have the option to try deleting Ae's preferences.
1) Close Ae.
2) When clic to open Ae, immediately press Shft + Alt + Cmd (on Mac) or Shft + Alt + Ctrl (on Windows) and keep pressing these three keys until If you see a dialog box where you are asked if you want to delete the preferences, press OK.
I hope this helps.

If you sure the problem with copy past is from the word file, so try to save your word doc as RTF or TXT file than take you text from this document

As Oussk is suggesting, pasting directly from word can result in undesirable characters as well. You can test this by just padting from word into a text editor. Then copy and paste from there. It's a quick alternative to saving your entire Word document as a text file.

You can add a keyboard shortcut when you paste copied text to loose the formatting. On a Mac you use Shift + Alt/Option + Ctrl/Cmnd + v
I think on windows you just use Shift + Ctrl/Cmnd + v.
That should solve the problem.
