Control + Shift + C is the shortcut for precomposing.

I have not had any problems precomposing in the latest release of After Effects.

Can you please explain in more detail what you are trying to do and how it isn't working?

I am having this issue today. It started randomly as I was working.

Restarting hasn't fixed anything.

All other functions work, such as duplicate layer, copy and paste, etc. I had tried with different files and precomps.

Precompse just stopped working. All methods... command + shift + c / Right-click > Precompse ... and even.. dragging assets to the new composition icon in the project menu. Weird. I can create new compositions then drag content in.

I can create a new composition and drag assets in, but it's less than ideal to reconnect. I've never encountered something so weird and specific in AE.

Unfortunately, being a freelancer, in my own studio, this is quite a significant workflow issue that I don't have IT support or alternative machines that I can turn to. Not great to happen whilst on a job.

Thanks, I see that I'm not on the latest version. I will update, and by the sounds of it should be fixed. Thanks.

Sadly the issue is back today. Sometimes it fixes itself with system restarts. I'm now running the latest After Effects.

I would suggest you contact Adobe's Support and ask for the video queue.
