Hello,
I'm not sure if it is a problem of after effects or my lack of knowledge of basic video recording skills.
I record videos on my smartphone Samsung S8.
Say I record a one minute footage. Then cut it in a half. One half goes on top another one under first one.
Then say I mask half of first layer and subtract it. Second layer fills the masking area of first layer.
And I get a problem. The problem is that usually one layer is darker then another one. I usually use Curves effect to fix that. It is not perfect however.
Does anybody know what an issue I'm facing? I tried to work with footage recorded on my old camcorder Canon Vixia HF20 (full HD) and got the same results. However I used automatic settings, not manual. Please give me your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

I'm trying to figure out why it is not the same light.
Please advise at your best knowledge.
It's because you do not know how to shoot video. It is NOT a simple matter pointing the camera -- um, PHONE -- and pushing the button. You must think a simple phone can work miracles as it shoots. It can't.
Solve your shooting problems and the AE work becomes much easier.

Impossible to know without better info. Could be as trivial as your masks having some feather and thus affecting overall opacity, could be as complicated as hardware acceleration issues, could be that perhaps you may accidentally mess with opacity and AE's normal blending mode behaviors get in the way. Provide screenshots of the issue and the relevant timeline properties revealed as well as things like system info, version of Ae and so on.

Hi Mylenium,
Can you please see the link and advise. You will see at the beginning that a shape appears. Then through the footage you will see that darker or lighter masking side appears.
Thanks,

I hope that one works. Also this is not worst one but masking color is changing through the video.

That one should work Example - YouTube

are we seeing two different shots where one shot is masked over the other? if so - these are natural light changes in the scene. you can manually keyframe those with curves or levels or use some other plugin which normalize one to the other.

The problem is that it is the one shot of maybe one minute. I'm trying to figure out why it is not the same light.
Please advise at your best knowledge.

Would you say that to solve my shooting problem first I should start of buying a camera and learn shooting skills instead of using smartphone?
Thanks,

Do not remove the video until you resolve the issue. I tried to open it but you have already removed it. I'm sure that many ACP's want to help you but we will not be able to if you remove the video.
