Complex Shape Morphing

Hi, So I am trying to morph 2 similar shapes into each other. The 2 shapes can be seen in the pictures below.

The simple circle has a lot of added anchor points to have the same amount as the more complex one. When i now copy the keyframe from the complex circle and paste it on the simple one it connects the anchor points to the complete other side. I´ve tried to mirror the complex form but nothing works. Help?

Start by checking whether the first vertex is actualyl set properly and matches. A screenshot showing the actual mask paths also would be a lot more helpful to diagnose any issues...
