Composition window is black when comp has footage

Just updated to AE CC version 14.2.1.34. I hadn't updated in a while. Everything was working fine until the update. As you can see above, I've been testing this with a few layers. I tried it with one layer with stock footage clip and I've tried it with multiple layers. If I create a solid it shows up fine. The second I add actual footage the comp window goes black.

I'm on a new-ish Mac laptop. Here's the OS specs:

I've been Googling this all night and I've tried every tip I've found on every blog, forum post, and YouTube video. I've re-installed earlier versions, updated back to current, trashed preferences, changed the Project Settings to OpenCL, dumped the cash, restarted several times. I'm stumped. 

Help me, Adobe-Wan Kenobi. You're my only hope.

Hello,

The frame rate of your comp is  29.97 and the footage is 23.97. If you set the frame rate of your comp as 23.97, does it work?
