Creating a mixed font template from AE? Mograt format

I have been trying to create a header with some effect on them to make a template from AE to use in Pr. (mograt format)

What is the best way to mix the font weight within one sentence using the essential graphic palette?

The problem is that when I change one word, the whole sentence changes to bold in adobe premiere pro?

I have tried to create 2 text layers in one mograt, but this is less than ideal. I'm not sure this is the best way?

The current limitation for Text Styles is one Text Style per Text Layer. HTH

I hate to say it but I really regret using premiere in this way. Is there any way adobe can fix this problem in future updates? Make fonts that can have different attributes in a sentence. It works with default type but the effects are somewhat limited with default text generators. 

It is really slow having to duplicate layers in Pr to get different weights of text. 

When you do a bit of text from as after-effects as a 'mograt' is there any way of putting some timing controls in without doing hold frames in Pr?

I have no idea if or when multiple font styles per text layer will be a functional feature via MoGRTs. Meanwhile, you'll have to dig into Expressions to create the look you want, with multiple font styles by combining text layers.

On including timing features to your AEMoGRTs, for use in PPro, we've had multiple threads on this topic and their specificity varies. Please perform a search to see which options/solutions best suits your current needs.

You have to use multiple text layers. You can easily tie them together so they look like one line using sourceRectAtTime on the position property of the other layers. You'll have to have two text editing boxes in the MOGRT. I do this kind of thing all the time.

Thanks,  Rick, that's a really interesting way of solving the issue. 

I think it might get a little too complicated in my case though.

It's scientific text and often there is superscripted references, italisized words, bold words all in the same paragraph. 

I wondered if it might be easier to use regular expressions to search the text and change them in After Effects. Think it might get complicated to fill in though needing to know regexp for everyone that's using the template. For if there are multiple numbers that need superscripting but some that dont. 

Think it's going to be easier to make a AE project template and just duplicate that for each project and ignore AE templates all together.

Features like individually selecting letters in a paragraph and applying different styles are not available in the Extended Graphis Panel. All you can do is select the font styling for the whole text layer. It's a good feature request. The only option now is to format each character that needs special formatting in the Comp Panel using the Type tool and make the adjustments with the Character Panel. Expressions are only able to set a type style to an entire text layer.

I guess I'm stuck with linking comps from an AE file for now. Feels like a jumping back 10 years..

It's possible to create an AeMoGRT for use in PPro with features for Italics, Bold, Superscript to groups of characters or words and it won't be difficult nor overly technical for the user. You'll need to find a developer and work out the exact features you require as well as how best for the user to use the MoGRT.

I havn't seen any examples of this in templates. Do you have any example templates that have this functinoality. I was under the impression that you are stuck with the character style that's been applied to the text box in After Effects.

This is doable but can get quite painful when there's a typo or correction cos all the number references become wrongly aligned and everything needs to be redone. This sort of implementation is awkward and not ideal.

If you are formatting that kind of text in Word, Illustrator, Photoshop, or InDesign, you still have to format the special characters one at a time. If it were my project, I would do the formatting in another app and copy and paste the text. Pick the right font and the right special characters, and you should be able to copy and paste from a Word or Pages or even Illustrator or Photoshop file and get everything you need. There should be no need for special character formatting in the MOGRT. I use the Apple Keyboard Viewer all the time when editing graphics in Premier to add special characters. You can't add faux bold to individual words, but superscript and special characters will come through just fine.

Could you explain the copying and pasting workflow a littl more clearly, I'm not able to get it working my end. 

Do you have a sample I can check mine against. 

I have created a text box in after effects, added the soursetext to the essential graphics pannel. 

Then when i try and copy text from illustrator to the input field in premiere it just defaults back to the original colour and font weight in the template. Am i missing something?
