CS6 AE: Loading a Motion Array Template

Explorer ,
Dec 24, 2017 Dec 24, 2017

I've seen questions close to this but not my specific situation.  I've purchased one of the Motion Array photo motion templates, and tried to follow their tutorial, but either I'm completely missing something or it's not specific to what I want to do.   After I made my purchase, I downloaded the zip file.  But when I tried to put it in my animations, the folder didn't show up.   That may be my first mistake.  Is that not where it goes?  Is that only for titles?  If so, then I'm not sure how to load it.

When I double clicked to unzip the downloaded file, the first two folders inside were: "_MACOSX" (so I assume Mac files, which I don't need) and then "Motion Array Secret Book".   Within that folder are two folders - After Effects, Font and a file called "DS Store".   Inside "After Effects" is "The Secret Book".   Inside THAT is  a folder called "Footage" and then two .aep files called "The Secret Book" and "The Secret Book (copy) CS5.5".

I'm still pretty new at working with AE, so I guess my first question is, do I import the "Footage" folder and one of these .aep files into a composition, or how does this work?

Yes, you have to unpack it and open the AEP files.

Okay, let me give that a try.  Thanks.  I'll let you know what happens.

Okay, so I opened the aep file and it's in my project info panel.   I get this message: The following layer dependencies are missing: Text Layer: Font Family: "Evanescent",, Font Style: REgular" appears.    Now, in an upper layer of the zip file, I saw something called Font, but it was a Word file.  In the same folder is a .DS_ store file.   Is that it?  Otherwise, the only other thing in the folder with the aep files was the "Graphic Elements" for the template, but I didn't see a font file by the error name.  What kind of file extension would it have?

May I cordially invite you to learn about After Effects before you try to use it?

Mere possession of a template is NO guarantee of success in AE.  Templates are almost always complicated AND the template makers assume that you have basic AE knowledge at the very least.  More often you need intermediate AE knowledge.

Thanks for the link.  I have some books, but of course  they frequently don't apply to my situation.   I have a look at that page.

Hey Buddycat,

I get this message: The following layer dependencies are missing: Text Layer: Font Family: "Evanescent",, Font Style: REgular" appears. Now, in an upper layer of the zip file, I saw something called Font, but it was a Word file.  In the same folder is a .DS_ store file. Is that it? Otherwise, the only other thing in the folder with the aep files was the "Graphic Elements" for the template, but I didn't see a font file by the error name.  What kind of file extension would it have?

Long story short - this means the creator of the template had used a font family that is known as Evanescent which is not installed on your computer. Download or license the font if you want to use it in your project.

Thanks,

Rameez

That would be dumb, but entirely possible, I suppose.   I'll poke around.   Thanks.
