Unmult is an old term for removing the black from images (Un- Multiply). Sometimes you want to remove the black, but not use a transfer mode like Screen or Add. So Unmult takes the alpha channel from the lightness. In this case, with it checked, the effect is doing just that.
You say you don't want a black background, but are you wanting the darker parts of the image to remain? I might be worth using a mask or track matte instead (with unmult unchecked)

the 'Deep Glow' effect is applying a background that’s causing the transparency issue. Try adjusting the blending mode or opacity of the glow layer, or apply the effect on a separate layer to avoid altering the image’s background. You could also try using a lighter glow color or adding a subtle color fill to the background to keep it from turning black.
