Dynamic link doesn't work

I'm trying to export a file from After Effects to Media Encoder, but nothing works. It says - Connecting to Dynamic link server

Sorry to hear about the issue. What's the version of After Effects and Media Encoder you're using? The first thing to check is that you're on the same version of both apps. Are there any third-party plug-ins used in the After Effects project? Do you get this issue with all the After Effects projects?

I've had this happen before.

Sometimes the dynamic link server can't make a connection even when you have the same upated versions of all the software involved.

I don't know what causes this but couple of things I have tried that seemed to resolve it:

1. use the push command from AE, File > Export > Add to Adobe Media Encoder Queue

2. In Media Encoder run the import command  a couple of times, I once had to run the import command 5 times to get it to list a comp in dialog box.
