Dynamic Text Box Expressions

Hi Ae community. I'm trying to fix an issue I have with my shape layers (text box) expression. 

Im trying to create a template file with basic text layers, that have coloured backgrounds per line behind the text.
I've got sliders working to a point but the box isn't fully responsive to the text length or number of lines. 
bellow is a screen grab of what I'm experiencing. I hope you can help me. Thank you in advance.

    If the text tool (Ctrl/Cmnd + t) is selected, you can right-click on a selected text layer and Convert to Paragraph Text or Convert to Point Text.  A carriage return will be added if you have multiple lines in the Paragraph Text when you convert to Point Text. They will need to be deleted.

    Re-type or copy & paste. There's no simple switch for that.

    Looks like you used paragraph text in which case the expressions won't work reliably. You need to use line text.

    How do I change paragraph to line?
