enter key not working

whenever i press enter to start a new line in after effects, instead of starting a new line underneath the previous line, it starts the new line in the centre of the previous line, overlapping the text. i can only write on one line. ive treid all the shortcuts people have suggested and i have reset my character panel. i cant find any solution online

The issue may be within the Paragraph Panel. Click on its Wing Menu at the top-right and select the Reset option. HTH

I solved mine adjusting the "Set the leading" to AUTO. It's located beside the font size slider.
