Hi there,

I have created a Facebook cover video using After Effects (CS5.5) and even though it looks perfect when I view it on After Effects when I export it and select H264 (mpeg4) when I upload it to Facebook as the cover video it looks blurry.

Is there any settings I should be selecting? How can I get it to look sharp and crisp as it does on After Effects when I have exported it?

All advice would be gratefully received.

You should check the video specs for facebook cover video upload and meet them in the export options.

What are the export options you choose right now?

Hi Martin sorry for the delay in responding as I am travelling at the moment. The export options are H264 (the Facebook video cover has to be Mpeg4 or Mov file formats) The options that are selected are:

Channels: RGB

Depth: Millions of Colors

Color: Premultiplied (Matted)

Many thanks

Facebook well recompress your video. Frankly, even if you match their specifications exactly the compression is often lousy.

The video will also look better if you give it a little while because the first copy posted will have the lowest data rate.

A better option is to post your video on Vimeo and link it to Facebook.

Hi Rick as its a Facebook cover video and not a post I am not sure you can post the video on an external website and still use it as a cover video?

What Rick said.  Facebook destroys every single thing you upload.  Can't stand it myself but there's no way around it.  Between that and making those square videos, it's quite annoying and I presume they want to keep themselves efficient and use less space.

Here's the best solution, for pic upload, well, it is what it is but for video, NEVER use their upload.  It's best to paste a youtube video or something because the resolution is maintained.

Hi Eric I believe you have to upload it directly to the Facebook cover position. I am not sure if you can post it to an external website like Vimeo or Youtube and still use it as a cover video on Facebook.
