Hello, I've just noticed that the option of exporting video files in FLV format has been removed from the AF CC 2014 version. This is very destructive to our workflow as we need the "alpha" channel of the flv for use in Flash.
Is there a way to restore flv export functionality?
If you need to export an FLV file, then use the previous version of the application.
See this for an explanation for the change regarding FLV and F4V and for the recommended workflow:
removal of FLV and F4V export features from Adobe Media Encoder, After Effects, and Premiere Pro
See this for an explanation for the change regarding H.264, MPEG-2, and WMV and for the recommend workflow:
using Adobe Media Encoder to create H.264, MPEG-2, and WMV videos from After Effects

Have you updated your CC app recently? I installed CS6 with no issues.

Mine is up to date; the only adobe media encoder option is cc 2014. I still have my old pre-2014 CC media encoder installed for this sole purpose. I sure would like to be able to reinstall it if I needed to.

You can install an older version of Adobe Media Encoder (AME) by installing the corresponding version of After Effects or Premiere Pro, since previous versions of AME were only available with host applications such as these.

Can confirm that this works, but would really prefer to just have the widely used file type available as an export module in the current media encoder, rather than installing an alternate version of another program just to get it in an old version of this program; which I had to do today.

Not true, I installed After Effects CS6 from the Creative Cloud installer but It didn't installed the AME CS6.

Thanks for the info! I've got the plugin for WebM, but now I need to export a WebM with transparency for the web. The test clip I tried with recommended settings from a YouTube tutorial (link below screen print), but he doesn't mention transparency. Any ideas?
I found the plugin for WebM with this:

I just noticed that it's not possible to open a composition from the latest version of After Effects (CC 2014) in an older version of AME (pre FLV removal) to be able to export FLV.
Now the only way to use the latest version on AFX is to render out to an intermediary format, then open in an old AME to encode FLV, and this just becomes a time consuming process slowing down out iteration work. WOW! workflow for the win, yeah!!!!!
So I'm forced to stay with the last version of AFX that supports FLV until this issue is resolved.
And by the way, this is just another absolutely stupid decision like the the Motion Editor in Flash were removed without introducing a replacement.. what gives?!?!?!?!

Yep just uninstalled Premiere CC 2014, AFX CC 2014, AME 2014, SpeedGrade CC 2014 because without FLV support there all about as useful as a 'chocolate teapot' to me - gutted that I'm locked into the subscription model now!!!!!

The same way that you get the current version. After Effects CC (12.2.1) is available through the Creative Cloud desktop application. Just scroll to the bottom of the Apps tab and make sure that you have the filter set to show all applications.

So the answer is that if we want an alpha channel export we have to use the older versions. Fine, whatever. But now the only older versions that are "available" are CS6 11.0 and CC 12.0. When I download either of these (on Mavericks) I get a message that says "You can't use this version with this version of OS X" How do I download version 12.2.1? It's not in the previous versions.

CS6 and CC both need to be updated to run on Mavericks. Does the CC software not give you the option to update them?

"The intent is to use the significantly superior H.264"
Not true, H.264 does't support alpha channel (RGBA) and also, to this date, 2018, Adobe Animate CC 2018 doesn't support H.264.

on Media Encoder Alpha, the file sizes are ridiculously big 😕

Yes, there are other formats but the file sizes are huge.
Would you please or anyone recommend the version to Alpha background videos in small sizes?

So I just updated to AE CC2015.
This deleted AE CC (original). Is this version of AE not supported anymore? Why not just leave it installed if people need this version?
I still use the CC version as it supports the FLV format. We use alpha FLVs in the games we develop...
Or is the a good alternative for (non-licensed) alpha videos?

There is an option when installing CC 2015 to uninstall older CC versions. The After Effects team recommends turning that off on install: keeping previous versions installed when installing CC 2015 applications |
That advice is for folks who haven't installed it yet...
Since you're already past that point, simply download the old versions. Instructions here: Download and install Adobe Creative Cloud apps

I have CS5, CS6, CC, CC 2014, and CC 2015 all on my machine at home. I like to have versions just in case.

hi guys,
as far as I can tell previous versions of AME are no longer available via Creative Cloud.
Upon upgrading to 2015, my computer has kept previous versions of Flash but AME was removed from my machine and CC is 100% NOT listed in 'previous versions', only CC2014 which doesn't support FLV.
The whole "we'll support 5 previous versions" etc seems like BS - certainly as far as cloud is concerned - is there a direct link for downloading AME CC?
Or a decent mp4 etc converter?
Personally I work on a lot of out-of-home campaigns, games etc that cannot use HTML5 etc and require a single swf which needs videos with alpha channel embedded. This means FLV, as no other format can do this - certainly not h264 etc.
all help welcomed.

I just want to echo that I also have a need to create videos for flash applications that include transparency, and it's shortsighted to remove FLV support until there's an alternative for this.

The previous versions of the applications are available to you. You can still use those for when you need to transcode to FLV.

CS6 works on the latest operating systems.
CS5 and CS5.5 work on Windows 7 which is still able to be purchased.
