im editing a video in premiere pro and need to create a sing along type moving dot lyric animation. I’m not super familiar with after effects so please make suggestions and I’d like to be able to chat with someone through the process...if anyone has time we could FaceTime/chat?
p.s. I’ve searched YouTube without many helpful vids for what I’m trying to accomplish.
Thank you all so much!
Personally, I would create the artwork for the lyrics in Illustrator so each phrase would fit in the frame and each phrase was on a separate layer. Then I would import as a comp, trim the layers so that they were all about 3 or 4 seconds long and sequence the layers to distribute them for the length of the song. Then I would import the audio track and put layer markers at the start of each word so I would have a visual cue in the timeline. Then I would add a shape layer for the bouncing ball and

You could keyframe the dot (eg. a circle graphic) moving over the words/parts of words.

Then I would add a shape layer for the bouncing ball and put it at the starting position. Then I would move down the timeline to the first marker and move the ball to the proper position for the first word. Then I would repeat the procedure for each word until there were position keyframes at each marker at the start of each word.
The ball would now be moving only in X from one word to the next. Next, I would add a null and make the null the parent of the ball. I would set a keyframe at the first word then move down the timeline until I was halfway between the first and second word and move the null in Y to the height I wanted. Then I would move down the timeline to the next marker and copy the first keyframe, where the ball is on top of the word and paste at the marker. I would then open the graph editor and adjust the curves for the Y movement to get the kind of speed that I liked and then copy the first 3 keyframes. I would then would paste the keyframes which would replace the first keyframe at the first marker and add two more. Using the K key I would press two or three times to get to the next marker, adjust the position of the last keyframe to match the second marker and adjust the middle keyframe, the one for the top of the bounce, then Paste again with the CTI at the second marker. I would repeat this until all of the lyrics were revealed and properly timed.
If none of this makes any sense to you I suggest that you spend three or four hours here learning the basics of After Effects: Basic AE
AE is not easy or intuitive. You have to spend some time learning about the UI and the basics of animation to have any success at all.
When you get more advanced you can write expressions that will take information from the sound file and translate that directly into motion, use expressions and scripts to get very nice realistic bounce, stretch, and anticipation to your animation and make things look better, but the copy and paste keyframes and markers trick will be the fastest way for you to get the job done.
You could also use a variation of that theme that moves a long line of text into view while the ball just bounces up and down on top of the words. This would involve a lot fewer layers and may be easier to do. You could use the markers to time the bounces and then just start setting keyframes for X position of the text layer.
