hello everyone,

so I've been looking to do this effect for so long but i haven't found a way to do it yet. Here are some examples of what im talking about.

Watch Dogs 2 Trailer: Marcus Character Introduction - E3 2016 | Ubisoft [NA] - YouTube

NEVERMORE 2 [CS:GO] - YouTube (0:18 - 0:37)

DEATHCAMP / Static [CS:GO] - YouTube (0:20 - end)

so its kinda like turning the footage into 'dots/lines' or something

please help,

Thanks!

Basically all variations on the halftone effect, which simulates the way photographs are printed in newspapers.

You can do it manually, and there are several paid plugins (search 'halftone' on aescripts.com) which speed up the process if you're doing it often.

These are fairly easy:

This is much more complicated and involves some animated mattes.

There are lots of ways to do this kind of thing using AE's stock effects. Generating some kind of halftone is a good place to start. Mosaic,  Cell Pattern, Threshold are places to start.
