Hello,
I have a problem and I didn't find any answers anywhere so I hop I could find one here.
I wish to create a new composition to prepare a little animation to import it in another composition. Habitually I have no problem when I do that but this time, when I create a new empty composition I find a picture on my screen but there are no layers in the timeline (and I didn't used the shy layer in any composition of this project).
This picture appear only when I use the this parameter: 1000px X 1000px and square pixel.
...
While I was writing I have fund another way to do what I want but the ghost still here. For example, whan I have increase the composition size (2000px X 2000px) the picture desapear but if I reduce to the original size the ghost come back. Very strange thing...
Purge all memory and disk cache. You will find the function in the Edit menu.
You should also make sure that your version of After Effects is up to date.

Thank you for your answer,
This morning, before to open the project file I have purged all memory and disk cache and it seems to work.
I prefer to finish my project before update the software because the last time I had many bugs after the update and this have generated a big lateness in my work.

If you install a new version it is always a good idea to make sure that you don't remove previous versions. The option to keep previous versions is available when you install through the Creative Cloud app. You just have to look for it.
If you are upgrading to the latest build of your current version, an entirely different thing, it is a good idea to check the forums, but there is usually no new bugs in an update. It is almost always a good idea to keep your current version up to date.
Anyone using any software professionally should keep a disk image of the OS and make sure that the disk image is up to date before they upgrade any software. It takes me about 20 minutes to restore any of my Mac's to a previous state, but it would take me two or three days to reinstall the OS, all the software and all the critical files I have on my machines. There is software for both Mac and PC that will create a bootable disk image of your entire boot drive and OS while you sleep. It's a good investment.

I'm getting the same thing in AE 2024. Haven't seen such a thing in 20 years of using After Effects. This is project that was handed to me by another designer. Some of the compositions aren't showing layers in the timeline, but they are obviously there, as I can grab them in the composition window. They aren't shy, and they are not filtered by the search field. Purging the memory did nothing.

I upgraded to 24.0.2 and the layers came back. This was likely the version the original project was saved in. Surprised it opened in v24 without warning, which is not the usual behaviour.
