How can I make my Mogrts faster? — Running VERY SLOW or failing in Premiere

How can I get Mogrts to run faster or reliably in Premiere?

I have a Premiere project with a Mogrt text element. The text mogrt has Essential graphics panel choices for text like — type on, fade on, type off or fade off. However, when I try to edit the mogrt text, Premiere is very slow to update on the screen or chokes up stops working all together!

The only fix so far is to copy (option+drag) the mogrt element and start over with my text entry.

How can I make my mogrts more reliable? Is there something I can do in AE when building the comp?

I tried to be as conservative as possible with the number of layers and comps. Or is there something I can do in Premiere for accurate playback?

Too often, MoGRT authors cramp unnecessary effects. Creating a fade-on/off effect in PPro takes only a few seconds, manually. On the Expressions side, such effects require heavy compute for every frame and this obviously slows down the preview and render of a MoGRT when it is used in PPro. A good MoGRT author is one that does sufficient testing in AE as well as having a good appreciation of how it will be used in PPro.

Try removing the auto fade-on/off Expressions - see if this speeds up the MoGRTs. In PPro, allow the user to use PPro's transform and effects which work in realtime on a sufficiently powered machine.

Lastly, use the Render & Replace for MoGRTs in PPro. Render & Replace can be reversed and allows you to work with underlying tracks in realtime on a sufficiently powered machine.

    Roland nailed it. You have to design with the limitations of the system you are using in mind unless budget and time are not important. There are lots of ways to make graphics more efficient. The best options depend on the design. My rule is that if a shot takes more than a few seconds to preview at full rez in AE then I'll render it and stack the rendered footage on top of the original footage in Premiere Pro so I can keep working and making changes in the sequence without having to wait for several minutes for each change to be ready to view.
