How can I make video pixels disappear (or make it look like they are)?

I'm looking to use After Effects or Premiere Pro to disguise sections of a video. The concept that I want to put across is pixels of a video dying. Watch this vid I made to see what I mean!

The white squares are the video (ignore the outlines, just imagine one solid footage) and the black squares are the pixels of the video disappearing. This is just an example, I know I can do it the hard way and just use black square solids but I want to do this with thousands of pixels disappearing sporadically until the entire video is gone. Whether I'm *actually* making the pixels disappear or just making it look like they are, I don't mind, open to ideas!

Does anyone know how I might be able to do this? Is there an expression that exists for this maybe?

OK - your video's not published as I'm writing this, but I think this is what you want:

1. Create a black solid.

Apply turbulent noise effect.

Apply mosaic effect - set horizontal and vertical block numbers to give as many 'pixels' as you want.

switch off the layer visibility of this layer.

2. On your video layer...

Apply Gradient wipe effect.

Set gradient layer to: your solid layer - and in the small menu to the right select 'Effects and masks'

Animate transition completion as required.

You can of cours

You can of course adjust the turbulent noise pattern and other properties to taste. If you wanted to get really fancy you could also apply a     time*n    (n being a number of your choice - try 500 for a starter) expression to the turbulent noise evolution parameter to shft the pixel pattern during the transition.
