How do you duplicate a composition that will differentiate from the original copy?

I understand that after you duplicate a composition---if you change one copy, it affects the other one. i.e., they are the same layer. Is there any way you can duplicate a composition to and make edits to one that doesn't affect the other? Thanks!

Hi. Select the composition in the PROJECT PANEL - usually the upper left panel on your screen. Then Ctrl+D to duplicate it - this will give you a new version and it's a good idea to rename it appropriately.

There are also 3rd party tools which allow you to duplicate a comp and all its related precomps. Google "True Comp Duplicator".
