Hi,

I am looking at reproducing this text effect in this video starting at 0.11.

I have applied opacity and scaling (and centered the text) but it still looks like it's getting bigger with a slight bottom to top direction. I am wondering if there is a better way to achieve the same text effect as in the video?

The text effects start at 0:11

This is what I have so far:

Thanks for your help

The problem is occurring because of your layer's anchor point, which is the little dot below the text.  All AE transformations happen relative to a layer's anchor point.  So when you scale your layer, it treats that anchor point as the centre of the scale transformation.

Adjust your anchor point until it is in the centre of your text.  You'll need to then reposition your text back into the centre of the comp.

Or, you can use the Pan Behind tool to drag the anchor point into position.

It's alos better if you convert your text to 3D layer and animate the position instate of scale, first in this way it will be more easy specially if you want to add lot of text and in this case you don't need to change the anchor point
