How to solve GPU-enabled effects error and lack of memory

Hi

I wanted to render a comp but I encountered this error:

"After Effects has encountered a failure related to GPU-enabled effects on this frame. This is likely because your GPU is out of memory."

The render stops when gets to a glitch and zoom transition.

I monitored the task manager during the rendering but the GPU uses not more than half of the memory capacity.

However, AE can render the comp in both Open CL (using integrated Intel® UHD Graphics 630) and Software Only.

My GPU works well with other projects. But in this case, it just uses 6% in the task manager before the failure.

How can I solve this problem and use my GPU to help the rendering process?

My system info:

Intell i5-10600K

GPU: GTX 1650 SUPER (4GB)

All drivers are updated

No CUDA toolkit installed.

Does the effect have an option to set it such that the GPU is not used?  For example, Real Smart Motion Blur Pro has a "Use GPU" setting that can be set to "OFF".

AE - Effect Controls - RSMB Pro with Use GPU set to OFF.AE - Effect Controls - RSMB Pro with Use GPU set to OFF.

Assuming it's a 3rd party plug-in, it's probably worth reaching out to the publisher.

Hi Warren.

Thanks for your reply. No there is no such option. As I see these are AE's effects. These two Scale Out and Scale In are the source of the problem.

The transition is possibly blowing things way out of size somehow. Lots of these zoom transitions use radial blurs and extend the layer sizes so the blurs don't stick over the edge.

There's also the chance that you've got a large layer that's been scaled down (or pushed back in z-space or whatever) but AE is still needing to calculate all of those pixels now with blur.

Look for the Motion Tile effect as well. I've often seen people with this set way too high causing larger than necessary layer sizes which can cause GPU effects to run out of memory.

So, this is my case. Please check these two transitions. What is the solution? I don't think 1650 SUPER is such a weak GPU. Can be anything wrong with GPU settings?

The trouble with GPUs and software is more often than not about compatibility rather than power.  If the card cannot do what you need in the particular way AE wants it to, you can have these sort of errors.  Sometimes its just an easier life to use software processing only.

So why integrated Intel® UHD Graphics 630 can render it but 1650 SUPER which is way stronger than 630 cannot render?
