Imported PNG sequence loses transparency

I have a PNG sequence with transparency that I want to import to After Effects. But when I do so, it loses the transparency. If I import just one of the PNGs, it still has transparency. Why is this happening?

Select the PNG sequence in the Project Panel, then go to File/Interpret Footage/Main or use Alt/Option + Ctrl/Cmnd + G  and try manually setting the Alpha Channel to Straight-Unmatted.

If I try that, the Alpha section is greyed out. Screen Shot 2023-11-01 at 9.27.44 AM.png

I think I found the issue. The very first png in my sequence didn't actually have transparency (but it was a png). So I guess After Effects interpreted it as the whole sequence not having transparency.
