Is my project file corrupt?

Community Beginner ,

Windows 10
Adobe CC 2018

I have been editing a video in Premiere and I have an AE comp which has been working fine in it for the past few days. Today I created a new effect/comp for a different scene but in the same AE project file. When I was finished with the comp, I imported it into Premiere and now having major issues.

First, when I tried to "Render In and Out" to preview the comp in my sequence, the render froze. I was able to cancel the render, move along the Premiere timeline and even render other areas of it but was not able to render this section with the new comp.

Next, the new comp and the other one (which was working as I mentioned) both began tp show the yellow "Media Pending" image and would not go away. I closed and reopened Premiere (with AE still open) a few times but any AF comp on my timeline never loaded.

I then went on to troubleshooting AE but the program was locked up. I closed the program via the "not responding" popup. I tried scrubbing though the Premiere timeline now with AE closed but then Premiere was now locked up. I looked in the task manager and still saw that AE was still running in the background and closed it via "end task".

Now when I try to open the AE project, the project does not load at all and locks up. Other project files work but no longer this AE project. Premiere is working fine without any AE comps so I am sure there is something wrong with my AE project file.

Has anything like this been happened before and if so, could there be a fix for it?

Thanks in advance!

It's rare, but it's possible something got corrupted, or you managed to create a glitched project that was save-able but not load-able.
Have you tried a previous version of the project, or your most recent auto-save?

Is your project making use of 3rd-party effects? I've seen one go south like this before, and was able to save it by uninstalling the effect, opening the project, and disabling/deleting those effects. Alternatively, if it relies on a lot of footage or big graphics assets, you might try moving those somewhere to break the links - it's possible one of those is actually the culprit.

You might also make sure your video card drivers are up to date - this can be a surprisingly effective (and easy) fix for a lot of issues with AE/Premiere.

Hi Michael

A few questions:

1. What CPU are you running?

2. How much of RAM have you got installed?

3. What GPU are you running

4. Did you create a copy of the save file

5. Are you running dual monitors with AE on one and PP on the other or just one monitor?

Thanks for the feedback so far!

Yes I tried the Auto-Save but same issue. The only 3rd party plugin I have is Saber from Video Copilot which I uninstalled but issue persists. I also updated the drivers as well. I just tried breaking the file links as well. Hmmm

@Mo Moolla

CPU: i7-7800x
Ram: 32GB
GPU: GeForce GTX 1080
Save Copy: I tried opening up all auto-saves but nothing
Monitors: I have 3 monitors... Left is full HD and used as my preview monitor, center is a 4k used as my main for all software, and right is also a full HD used for web browsing, email, etc...

Saber is the exact plugin I've seen cause this before.

Do you have a lot of instances?

My friend ran into this. I was able to get the project open on my machine and segment it out into different comps. Turns out just one particular comp was the issue - maybe just too many Sabers happening at once or something.

Have you tried opening this on a different machine? Have access to one?

Hmm interesting. Running 3 monitors (one 4K) though a single 1050. That VRAM s being split.

Switch off all other monitors and just use the main one and tell me if a lock up in AE occurs.

Your power draw is way too much in my opinion.

When you are editing you use multiple screens you will need to know to configure them efficiently to suit your workflow.
