Hi there fellows!
I just installed the update to the new Particular 5 - and its just so slow to work with? Has thsi happened to any of you guys.
I have a powerful system and the old Particular worked way more smooth - and i tried to reinstall all red giant. Have not uninstalled After Effects - as I dont want to install all the 50 plug-ins again 🙂

Without actual system info nobody can say much. Chances are that this may relate to some updated OpenGL functions in the Editor and particle rendering and/ or it may have to do with that newly introduced "Emit from parent System" stuff. I would imagine that if you accidentally use it even when it produces no visible particles it could be quite taxing even on powerful systems. In any case, I'd start by checking and updating graphics driver stuff...

Red Giant Trapcode has extremely been bugged ever since the release. My rig is decent and every other plugin/program works as i expect. But I suspect they have done a really poor job rewrinting the code on the new version. Also my specs are shown in my signature 🙂

Me too. From Trapcode suite 16 and above, it's slow in response. That's why 2022 I'm still using Trapcode suite 15.

Im amazed at how bad trapcode has become! They have a new junior dev team? 😞

Curious if your still on trapcode suite 15. I'm on 18.1 and its slow. I can still get work done but its pretty slow. Currently working in 4K btw

Did you make sure that you properly got rid of everything associated with Red Giant before reinstalling? Sometimes running an uninstaller doesn't get everything.

No, that's the problem of Trapcode. You can see it in the video from Red Giant 00:20 & 00:30, it's slow too :))))

Ah, thanks. I wrongly percieved Jonas had tried reverting back to a previous version and the problem remained,
but all it actually says is that he "re-installed". My mistake

Once the king of plugins, the everyday go to, something so fast and powerful even on basic systems 10 years ago... alas, now has become completely unusable. A real shame.

Yes, incredibly slow. I'm running a 12900K, DDR5 RAM, m4 SSDs, 3080ti.
Even the default particle sim when you attach the effect can't be scrubbed through at full resolution. it's CRAZY. And we're all forced to use this plugin to create our art, as it's the only particle sim that is still "supported" to this date.
I spent 599 to buy it for a year, then it started crashing my projects. I sent them an email, got no response, and instantly refunded the purchase. I'm gonna try avoiding it like the plague now.

The latest Particular takes about 20 seconds to load when the effect is applied, but then the previews, UI, and renders are a little faster than in previous versions. M2 Max MacBook Pro, Ventura 13.5.2. I have no intention of updating my OS until I know that Sanoma and the apps I use to make my living are more compatible.

Just wanted to add to this (even after all these years). Using the latest version on my rig: i9 13900K, 128GB Ram, RTX 4090 Graphics card, and it STILL performs like absolute garbage.
Serisouly, we're talking a 4090 GPU and a 32-thread CPU.
Next time I need to make particles, I'll record them using a stop motion camera and hand-moving clay figurines frame-by-frame... it will probably get the job done faster.

Ive stopped using all trapcode plugins. Its an obvious cash cow for them. Just buy stardust for 250 bucks once and never look back - at least theyre honest about not supporting it anymore and dont keep charging you.
or, theres alternative methods for getting the software, but i dont know what those could be 🙂
