Mask 3D Text in AE 2023

New Here ,

Hello!

My name is Fred and currently i use the version 23.5.0 (Build 52) for Adobe After Effects.

I would like to add a mask on the 3D text i have written, to make a "reveal" effect from right to the left side. Someone knows how to do it without plug-ins?

I managed to do it before but i lost the project and i forgot how i did it or i think it got lost between the last updates by Adobe.

Thanks!

If you are using the C4D rendering engine and extruding the text layer, you will have to pre-compose the text layer and move all attributes to the new composition and then apply an animated mask to the pre-comp or use a track matte. a 3D solid at least one pixel in front of the text layer will work as a Track Matte. If you have rotated or moved the layer, or added a camera or lights, make sure that you Collapse Transformations on the Pre-comp.

The C4D rendering engine does not allow masks or effects to be used on a 3D layer.

A better option might be to apply a Transparency text animator to the text layer. You can then use Hold Keyframes to pop each extruded 3D layer into view.

If you are using the Classic 3D workspace, then masks or trackmatts applied to the 3D layer will work just fine.
