Mask Tracking

New Here ,
Jan 14, 2021 Jan 14, 2021

I'm working in After Effects to blur the names out of participants in my zoom call video. I am using the mask path and tracker as people move around the screen and videos come on and off. After I reset the mask for the new position of a name, I noticed that the mask will gradually move to that point over the period of time. This is problematic as the mask uncovers their name as it moves to the new position. Is there a way to set the mask to move instantly at a certain point instead of this gradual change?

Hi. If you use Hold keyframes the mask will jump when it reaches a new keyframe (select the keyframe, right click, Toggle Hold Keyframe). If that is too abrupt, copy the first position keyframe to the spot where you want it to start moving.

Im thinking that even when image insets swap around in a zoom call the names will always be in the same general area or at least in the same alignment..  I would try to see if i could get away applying an overlay that blurs a bar across the bottom or top to that names are always blured no matter who is which position.  You might have manually move it a few times but that's way easier then trying to track a mask for every name for an entire zoom call?   Sounds like a nightmare.  Even easier: a thin black bar across entire row.
