Hello everyone
I'm having a few issues with masking and /or cropping.
I create a new comp, create a new solid layer, select the layer, then the rectangle tool and yes, the masking works as it should. I can only see the content inside the mask.
Ok, now here's my problem. From the effects I'm using "text >numbers" to ultimately create a countdown timer. However when I try to mask part of this. Nothing happens. Here's a pic
Please can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong?!
Many Thanks
James

You're seeing this due to AE's rendering order - it renders masks before effects, which means your Numbers effect is being rendered after the mask has clipped its layer. You can apply a mask to your Numbers effect by going to the 'Compositing Options' under your Numbers effect in the timeline, clicking the + sign, then choose your mask from the 'Mask reference' drop-down.

Enable the Composite on Original option or pre-compose. Happy greetings from teh AE render pipeline. you should read up on this stuff.

BTW if you just want to remove these two zeros, you can reduce the decimal places parameter
and for a counter I do recommend using expressions, rather then numbers effect which is not that flexible. here's a good resource for it:
