Adobe has dropped support for Quicktime 7 in After Effects 15.1 so a lot of legacy codecs will not be available anymore.

The link you are referencing is very old and not applicable to newer versions of AE.

Great also that a bunch of my projects now have unsupported quicktime files in them. Thanks Adobe (sarcasm).

David P,

Great also that a bunch of my projects now have unsupported quicktime files in them. Thanks Adobe (sarcasm).

Sorry about that. We are only reacting according to the wishes of our partners at Apple. Though devs have been working very hard to create 64 bit versions of these codecs for some years now, it would be difficult to engineer every single one under the sun. Better to make feature requests for 64 bit versions of codecs that you need the most here: After Effects: Hot (683 ideas) – Adobe video & audio apps

Thanks,
Kevin

You could address this by licensing or buy the code created by a 3rd party. Adobe has the financial resources to do so.

Very frustrating as I use HAP extensivley for realtime content creation and now it is impossible to do anything with the content in post.

Other codecs are great but do not meet needs of many modern professional content creators.

Hi qdqwe1e2,

A 64 bit version of the HAP codec might be a possibility in the future. Kindly upvote this bug report so that devs can get a better handle on the issue: Support the HAP codec – Adobe video & audio apps

Thanks,
Kevin

I would also like to voice my displeasure at this move. The price keeps going up (in Australia, I see a price rise roughly twice a year due to "fluctuations in exchange rates", but those same fluctuations never reduce the price) but important features keep being removed. Well done, you really know how to mess with your clientele

This is a directive from our partners at Apple in that QuickTime 32 bit codecs will no longer be supported. Our developers are merely reacting to that directive. Sorry for the frustration.

Thanks,
Kevin

I still can't believe that AE is sporting crap codecs like DV PAL/NTSC but not H.264 and QT 7. This has been the biggest downgrade yet. What a waits of money.

G M D THREE,

I still can't believe that AE is sporting crap codecs like DV PAL/NTSC...

A good number of codecs were rewritten in 64 bit format, but not absolutely everything. This work has been going on for years. QuickTime H.264 has been a poor quality codec for quite some time. Merely use AME to get your H.264 files. Sorry for the frustration;

Thanks,

Kevin

My videos all had an alpha channel that I needed to keep, so I used Quicktime to transcode every video using no compression. That's the only workaround I found.

You can't blame Adobe 100% for this one. Most of the problems came straight from Apple.
