I am new at this, I'm using an older MacBook Pro. I am trying to render a 4 second video. There is nothing in my render queue except for this 4 second project. And no matter what option I choose for the output, I get the same error message "After Effects error, this module does not support getting output suffixes 39 :: 96" the project itself is a 3D animation with a black background, and the only thing I've done is get rid of the background using the roto brush tool. Also the video only plays for .02 seconds in the preview. Nothing seems to be working, I'll take any advice I can get.

Without any specific info on the source material, footage interpretation, composition settings, render settings, settings for hardware acceleration and so on we can't really tell you much. The error suggests that you are using a format that would produce a specific stream format or try to embed meta data, which could point at issues e.g. with converting the color space of your source footage or the GPU acceleration being unable to encode your file. At least in the latter case you can of course try to turn it all off and rely on software-only rendering. Everything else will require more information.
