Morphing a dashed shape layer

So, I want to morph a dashed path. I understand that the dashes relate to the length of the path, so while length gets bigger more dashes are created, etc.

Is there a way to keep the number of dashes fixed?

You can use the Vegas effect instead of actual dashes. Otherwise there's any number of ways to create such setups with text on paths, text animators  and what have you. Entirely depends. You'd have to be more specific for anyone to advise further.
