Hi
After the Mavericks Update for CS6 (AE 11.0.3.6) on MacOs, i have trouble using the motion sketch tool. After clicking "start record", the mouse cursor is supposed to turn into a crosshair allowing you to record motion for a selected object on the canvas. Instead, after the update, the crosshair cursor dissapears on leaving the button. Info window still tells you to click in order to start recording, but clicking and dragging on the canvas results in the regular behaviour i.e. moving an already selected object (or drawing a selection frame if no objected is selected)…
Has anybody else fencountered the same problem yet and found a workaround? Is it a bug? Will Adobe fix it?
We've verified that the Mac OS X v10.9 operating system broke Motion Sketch for After Effects CS6.
It's working fine in After Effects CC (12.1).
If you need to use this feature with After Effects CS6, for now don't upgrade to Mac OS X v10.9.
We're looking into the possibility of including a fix for this in an After Effects CS6 update, but no promises there. The best way to influence that decision is to submit a bug report:

This probably has it's limitations but I decided to put a tutorial online with a posssible alternative:
My workaround was to use the Puppet Pin. You can animate a puppet pin in real time by dragging it while holding Command. This is called the Puppet Sketch tool.
You can also use Windows - Smoother if you want to smooth the resulting keyframes out. This replaces the smoother setting in Motion Sketch.
Here's the tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laRWtLmoKV4
Sorry for the freaky audio, it was either that or my buzzing MacBook.

I'm just verifying to say that, YES...it is November 17, 2014 and there is STILL no fix for this problem. Working on After Effects CS6 today and Motion Sketch does not work on OSX 10.9.4.
Hooray for customer service. Can you imagine any other industry leader waiting over a YEAR for an update?
Adobe...what's going on?

Yes. Apple for numerous things.
However, I do agree with you that it is taking a really long time considering what we are used to from Adobe.
That being said, I'm impressed that Adobe has committed to even do an update at all considering that CS6 is two full versions behind.

We do still intend to release another After Effects CS6 update to fix this and other issues, but this item has been pushed to second (or third) on our priority list over the recent months by more urgent matters related to the current versions of the software.

2015... is this problem still being pushed to the back burner? It was so exciting to read this post from the beginning thinking there would eventually be an answer.

We do still intend to fix this in an update for After Effects CS6, but we have needed to focus our limited resources on the current version for now. We'll post on this thread when we have a better idea of when an update is forthcoming.

Dear Todd,
i think my priority to buy Adobe CC products is pushed to second or third level.

Did you guys ever put out a fix? I have the same problem with cs5 and have no intention of a subscription based program. Say what you will but you guys are trying to push everyone in that direction. Yes I know more money for you guys (greed) and for internet providers (internet service becomes mandatory). But really how much of a profit do you need to be fair with your customer base? Looks like customer concern will lose another battle to corporate greed. how sad.....

Awesome, it's October of 2015 and we've had not one, but two major Apple OS updates, and this still doesn't work.

I'm not sure if Todd_Kopriva still works for Adobe but if he does you would think he would post a status update on a fix that is 3 years in the making.

Yes, I'm still here.
We had thought that we would be doing another update for After Effects CS6 to address this issue, but that is no longer being planned. We are focusing our efforts on improving the current and future versions.

It is really sad, that you do not carre about customers, because this bug of the sketch motion function in After Effects exists longer than the CC version exists... Or am i wrong? i spent a lot of money for Adobe software... But it looks that the Adobe customers care is the some across all aplications, for example i noticed and reported some UI bug in Adobe Illustrator and since now it hasn't been fixed... Sadly true...

This bug has been fixed. It is fixed in the past many versions. The fix is just not being applied back to this older version of After Effects. Keep in mind that the problem is a bug introduced by a new version of Mac OS released after the affected version of After Effects. We can't go back and patch all old versions.

Is it still the case that CS6 is there to fall back on when a CC user's subscription ends?
If so CS6 should be fully functional.

He said the bug was fixed in newer versions, but not in CS6. What version of AE are you running?
