[NOOB QUESTION] Pre-compose and Copy-Paste move Layer Contents

Explorer ,
Aug 21, 2023 Aug 21, 2023

Hi there,

I'm having issue of a layer content being moved when:

1. Pre-compose the Layer: I think it must have something to deal with the parenting of the Layer but is there any way to work around this? (i have to re-parent them, then move them to the original position)

2. Copying a Shape Group from one shape layer to another also moves the position of the Shape Group. There is nothing like Paste in Place of Illustrator.

These are very confusing and time-consuming.

Please kindly shed some light on these.

Thanks a ton,

Tho.

Planning and organization is the key to efficiently using layers parented or linked to other layers by expressions. You usually want to keep the layers that are linked grouped together. Most of the time, the Parent and Child layers are all moved into a Pre-comp (nested comp).

Understanding how Collapse Transformations affect pre-composed or nested comps also takes a bit of practice. Cameras and Lights in the main comp will always affect every 3D layer in a nested comp. Any lights or cameras added to a nested comp will be ignored if you collapse transformations.

If you are new, spend some time with the User Guide. That is a much better place to start than scouring the internet for tutorials or just poking around in the UI.
