Null Paths Positioning

Contributor ,

Hi Forum.

I have copy/pasted my masked paths into the null objects position. But it's not centred on my text as show in the screenshot. I try to move the null objects paths

but I can only move individual points. I try to select them all, but again only one point moves a time. is there a way I can move this null path as a unit so I can position it accordingly to where I'd like it positioned.

Thank you.

There are several ways to do this but here are the easiest and quickest ways.

1)

You could try just adjusting the Anchor Point value of the Null?

This assumes that the Anchor Point value of the Null is not important for anything else?

2)

Select all the keyframes in the Timeline.

Make sure that the Time marker is parked on a keyframe (important!)

Then scrub the Position values - they will all move as a group.

3)

In the Graph Editor (Value Graph selected), select all the keyframes, then simply click and drag one of the X value keyframes to move them as a group.

4)

You could parent your Null to another Null and use that Null to move everything.

The layer the mask path is on is not at the default transform position. If you are going to copy paths and paste them to motion paths the layer must be at the default position, rotation and scale. That is what threw off the motion path.

If you are stuck with the existing path (which we can't see) then there is an additional easy fix, reset the position of the mask layer, double-click the mask to bring up the mask transform tool, align the mask with the text layer, press Alt/Option + m to set a mask keyframe, press Ctrl/Cmnd + x to cut the new mask keyframe and copy it, select the null layer and turn off the existing position keyframes, press Alt/Option + p to set a new position keyframe, then Ctrl/Cmnd + v to paste the mask path to the position of the null.

If you don't want to go through all of that, the easiest thing to do would be Angie's third suggestion. Just add a second null, make that the parent of the first one and reposition Null 1 so it lines up with the text.

You can select one point than press Cmd+A (on mac) Ctrl+A (on windows) than move the mask with arrow or double click on any mask stroke to bring the transform option than moved with cursor
