overbright values clipping in 32-bit

Hi all.

Never found any advice or ideas on how to correct the following problem:

Compositing Arri LogC3 and rec709 sources in 32-bit ACES color space (project color management on).

Overbright white gets clipped to negative when added another overlapping bright source. Both in Screen and Add modes. In the example image, a muzzle flash and sparks are composited together in Screen mode over a log background. The bright values in the layer above turn negative. Hate this.

Am I the only one? Please don't suggest OCIO workflows - too complex and slow.

Hi @Rocketbottle,

The Screen blending mode can go negative with over-range, but Add should not. Add should do as the name suggests and sum the individual RGB values. If you post a sample project, which could be just a single frame with a couple of layers demonstrating the issue, we can dig deeper.

Cheers,

Jason

Thanks for the tip.

The problem was Trapcode Particular that had internal blend mode as "screen". That was ruining my pipeline. Now I know where to look if problem arises.
