I am running on Adobe CC 15.0.0. Build 180 and I just found a very strange problem.
The workflow I have been always using to animate a shape path is:
1.- Draw the shape which this creates a new shape layer.
2.- Go into the contents of the shape layer and transform the shape path into a Bezier Path so I can animate it.
3.- Create The two keyframes animations.
This workflow used to work perfectly until now. All this morning I have been super stressed because I could not animate a super simple shape animation which
just implied the movement of the top two Bezier points of a rectangle to the bottom. That's it. Well, After Effects resulted in a scaling weirdly, because it could not
interpolate this very simple animation.
I tried in many other projects and I got super frustrated. I asked a friend from the office to check this out, and what we found was that, it works only if you check the Bezier path option in the tool bar in the top from the beginning, before you start drawing, skipping the conversion from shape to Bezier path after.
This must be a bug or maybe I have something that does not work.
Please let me know what this could be.
Thanks for your time.
You are correct that this is an anomaly and should be called a bug although Ae states in the help files that this is somewhat of a feature limitation.
when converting a parametric shape to a bezier path, there is a nasty bug that causes the first vertex not to be registered. once you register it (right click on the the square vertex, mask and shape path -> set first vertex) you should be fine.

It works fine here - I think it might be user error.
To test:
Make a shape layer - with the Bezier path option off - ie, like you did originally.
Right click on your path group - 'convert to Bezier Path'
...what I think is happening is that you now see 8 handles around your shape - these are transformation box handles - not vertices. I guess you are selecting these - and scaling your box.
...instead: twirl down your Path1 group and select (highlight) "Path". You are now seeing the vertices. Select the vertices you want - and keyframe.

You can immediately/directly create a Bezier Path while drawing with one of the Quick Mask Tools — hold down the ALT/Option key BEFORE you start drawing.
