Hi there,
Could you try this by creating a rectangle using the Rectangle tool (Q)? Is there any specific reason you're using a composition to create the alpha matte? Let us know.
Thanks,
Ishan

Essential Graphics runs into all sorts of issues when it comes to track mattes and it drives me crazy. Will there be a fix for it? Some of the occasions it goes wrong seem totally illogical. For example in a project I'm working on now, I'm using a composition as a mask, and for one layer it works as a track matte, and the other layer it does nothing. They are both using Essential Graphic properties. Is there any literature on the limitations of EG?

Could you share more details about your project? If you could share a screen recording of the issue you're experiencing, we can better understand the problem you're experiencing and share it with the engineering team if needed.

no specific reason, using EG(or any layer) as a track matte just follow the rules Ae always does.
the alpha from EG when treat as a matte just make me confuse

I'm going to suggest you're pushing Essential Graphics too far and having one version of the comp be the inverse alpha matte of another version of the comp has some built-in conflict that's not obvious. The rounded EG works with any other layer though. As Ishan asks, is there a reason you're doing it the way you are?

just want to re-use comps and keep the numbers of comps as low as possible

This post actually points to an important limitation with EG at the moment.
This is just an example of the fact that currently, essential properties aren't being taken into account when we use the layer as a track matte. I've stumbled across this a dozen times by now, constantly wishing the calculations of EG would happen before the track matte.
@Ishan Y I'm really hoping you guys are going to implement this feature at some point. Having to pre-comp a layer in order to "lock in" whatever the essential properties on it changed is quite impractical.
Let me know if it's unclear and I'd be happy to explain further

I'm having the same problem with Essential Graphics. It would be great to have this feature that @formzuform is talking about.
It's really a shame that Essential Graphics doesn't work with Alpha Matte when changing the shape inside the comp. It kinda loses the purpose of what Essential Graphics is.
