Random Flashing Frames

So I use After Effects to make edits. I'm working on a project and it's all fine and dandy until I rendered it, when the final frame in most of my transitions either froze for a noticeable amount of time. or showed a completely different frame altogether. I've tried rendering it in different settings, even in different compositions, but nothing works. I don't see any of this happening while I'm in the program, only when it has rendered.
I am on a MacBook running High Sierra 10.13.4.

Make sure you purge everything before rendering, that AE is up to date, and that you are not creating your own render settings. Unless you are an expert use the standard render templates. Do not expect the default Lossless preset to playback smoothly.
It also sounds like you are editing a film with AE because you talked about transitions. AE is not an editing app. It is designed for single shots or short sequences. You should be doing your editing in Premiere Pro and the VFX and motion graphics that cannot be done in an NLE in AE. more than 90% of my comps are under seven seconds and a single shot. Make sure you are using the right tool for the job.

I agree with the idea of purging your cache.
I would also double-check your video card drivers are up to date - that's usually a great culprit for AE weirdness.
Is there an effect being used in all of these instances? Specifically a 3rd-party one?
You might also try disabling GPU acceleration. File > Project Settings > Video Rendering and Effects
