I often revise old projects and the quickest way to do this is to right click for the reveal in project then duplicate that. However in the latest version of AE the Reveal in project feature isn't working. I tried to uninstall and reinstall and it didn't fix the issue. Are other users having the same issue?
The way it works when it is a precomp and you use this command is always AE to showing the comp you are working on. If you need to reveal this precomp in the Project panel you need to use the Reveal Layer In Project command because you are using a comp as a layer, not as a comp.

Do you mean the "Reveal In Composition" feature?

"Reveal in Composition" feature works fine. The "Reveal Composition in Project" feature is the one that isn't working in the latest version of AE. The option shows up in the menu it just doesn't work if you click on it.

it works fine here, although it is annoying it hides now under Reveal sub-menu requires a little search.
if you can, show us a screen capture so we can monitor your steps to make sure it's not a user error.
also specify your OS.

I'm a longtime professional user of AE. In the past I've spoken at the Adobe booth during NAB. So, frustrating to me when a basic feature stops working I greatly appreciate any input or help.
I'm working on a series of complex animations that each are slightly different then the next. To accomplish this I duplicated and rename the Master comps. Then need to find all the sub comps nested inside, duplicate and modify them.
Here is where the issue exists that didn't 2 weeks ago. I right-click on the number next to the layer name in the timeline window.
On that menu I scroll down to Reveal Composition in Project. When I release it then it should reveal the Composition (sub-comp) in the Project window. Instead it reveals the comp I'm working in. It directs it to the wrong Comp in the project.
I use this trick to speed through projects of this nature all the time so frustrated it doesn't work as it is supposed to work.
Here is my system and AE version...

I've never used this feature before. When I click on it the composition gets selected in the project panel. Is that how it's supposed to work? I can see by your menu you are on a windows machine. Are you using High Sierra 10.13?

Paul how were you able to avoid using it? it's one of my most used commands. anytime I need a unique copy of a precomp I have to use it to find the comp in the project panel. the process is: duplicate the precomp in the timeline, right click to find in the project panel, duplicate the source, replace source (Ctrl+Alt+/)

I just didn't know it existed. When I duplicat comps I just open my comps folder, find the comp, select it & hit CTRL-D.
I guess it's never been that big a deal because I don't think I've ever had more than 30 or 40 comps in a project & they're always uniqely named so I could find it pretty quickly. I see this feature takes care of the first three steps for me though...it opens my Comps folder and selects the comp so all I need to do is duplicate it & maybe rename it.

I'll try this in AE shortly...
There is a problem in PR where the sequence is revealed if it is at or below the level of the top level bin in any project panel tab, it will be found. If no tab is at a high enough level, it won't.
Even though the bug is titled for Mac, it also occurs in Win 10.

Roei That is exactly how I use it and not sure why it's not working correctly anymore.

After Effects is not playing nice with High Sierra10.13.
Adobe has set up a special page for users with that OS
But your issue doesn't seem to be listed....yet

For the PR issue to apply here, the project panel must be open only to a folder, not at the root. Is that possible? I can get close by using a search, which makes it appear that there is only one folder open. But even then "Reveal composition in project" finds the composition. It just makes it look like it is in the search folder.
Oh, well... No clue.

So you're still farting around with 15.1.0, huh? The broken typefaces weren't enough of a red flag, huh?

Dave LaRonde,
Trying to fight my way through but about to give up. You are 100% correct. Dealing with the type faces clipped off at the top for no reason as well.

I'm lost with adobe. Does anyone at adobe EVER use their own software? I'm baffled in how they remove/change functions thousand and thousands of people use everyday! 'Reveal in project' who was the smart guy that thought this should be under a submenu?
Common adobe for real, are you trolling us??

This command is under a submenu so, what is exactly your problem?

courtesy of John Colombo https://1resonant.com/ here's a workaround that will assign a shortcut for "Reveal Layer Source in Project":
1. Save a .jsx file from a plain-text document containing the line:
`app.executeCommand(app.findMenuCommandId("Reveal Layer Source in Project"));`
2. put it in the scripts folder or Drag that .jsx file into the After Effects's project window while holding the Alt Key
3. Restart After Effects
4. Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts
5. Search for the name of your .jsx file in the Search box
6. Assign a shortcut.

Thanks for that workaround, Roei.
It's a bit of a whopper of a bug, that one.

I'm a pro motiondesigner and I speak daily with few other pro's and the frustration level of Adobe is through the roof!
I installed AE 15.1.1 and suddenly none of the fonts are working that are located in the 'fonts' dir (the internal fontmanager from adobe).
A 'known issue'. I dont get it. Do they ever test their own software? Or do they just compile and push the update?
This is getting out of hand!

THIS IS THE CORRECT ANSWER!
Can I change it to that somehow!
(You have to select the shortcut next to the command on the left)
(I went for apple alt F1)
Thank you so much RT, the sub menu is just terrible! It always just stops me dead. I have been trying to learn it but it is just counter-intuitive.
(Like in Windows where "Open With..." is not directly under "Open" - Why?)
Also a reminder to the frustrated, the AE team is actually quite small and they are prioritising a lot of major under the hood changes, and different people suggest different things so it will alwaus be a compromise. But this workaround is EXACTLY the kind of thing we need, so that some of us can change things if we want. We don't want to be told we don't need to do it (Gerard!) we need workarounds from the techies to do what we want to do. much love for this.
(If I could disable incremental number adding to names I would be ecstatic!)
