Hi there -I think this is a scripting question, ie. is this feature missing from AE...
I see that "root mean squared" average loudness in the LUFS standard of loudness measurement loosely translates into average RMS decibel level. Alas I don't see that captured in AE . . I know there is Audition and plugins etc, but should I just process "convert audio to keyframes" and just get my average reading ?
Seems like an easy solution, as I like to keep it tidy in AE and don't need exact readings just ballpark.
So should I proceed or is there something obvious that I am missing in AE bar staring at the levels during playback...?
Tks

If I understand you correctly, when you click "Convert Audio to Keyframes" you get an sort of average differentiation between the keyframe values, meaning that they don't vary much.
If you want to increase the amplitude/influence of the keyframes, after you convert the audio add this expression to the keyframed property:
value*200
The "200" number is your call - depends on the audio and effect required.
Or maybe I misunderstood you completely... I didn't understand half of the terms you used Video guy here

Hey there, I am visuals too usually - just need to hit regulations on loudness... I suppose the question is what is the numerical relationship between "audio to keyframes" and decibel levels... ?
There is free software Orban Loudness meter... which can do the job . . .
also in Media Encoder:
Media Encoder Help | Automatic loudness correction
Still would be nice to script it if there is a ratio.
