I have a null object and a pointlight and want to move them from behind a third object to above the third object and also rotate the whole package (null object+pointlight) without changing the distance between them, how do I do this the easiest way? They are in line now from i z-space I want them to be in line from y-space.

Pick a layer that you want to use as the center of the rotation and then parent the other layers to that layer. If you want to center of rotation somewhere else open up at least 2 views, create a 3D null, position it at the center of rotation, then parent all of the other layers to the null, then rotate the null.

This is really basic stuff. You might want to spend some time with the User Guide
